Chinese
Premier's Statement Endorsing Freedom Of Speech Is Immediately Censored
By China
Silly little government
In a CNN interview, the premier
of China, Wen Jiabao, stated, "Freedom of speech is
indispensable for any nation." Ironically, all references
to both the comment and the interview were soon censored by the
Chinese government. All web sites repeating the comment were
either
removed or blocked.
As is always the case with censorship, the amount of focus and
attention the statement generated within China, and the Chinese
political
repercussions, were magnified because the government
tried to erase it. It's worth mentioning that the Chinese Constitution
protects freedom of speech.
